Adopting a Horse From Sacred Heart Rescue
Although we would like to keep every horse that comes to us, restraints prevent
us from doing so. We must place our rehabilitated horses in loving homes, so we
can continue to save and rehabilitate other horses that badly need our help. If you
are interested in adopting a horse from Sacred Heart Rescue, please
CONTACT US.
We currently have three horses available for adoption/foster, Sadie, Cowboy and Poke.
We thoroughly evaluate all potential adopters to ensure that our horses are placed in
acceptable homes.  You may download an
application here for adoption or fostering.
Sadie
Sadie has great ground manners and is well trained.  She is great on trails and isn't at all
spooky.  She can be hard to catch at times until she gets to know you.  She has
foundered but has done well here for the last 2 springs and summers but will need to be
monitored if on too rich of grass.  She is approximately 16 - 17 years old.
Cowboy

Cowboy is a senior horse in his mid
to late twenties.  He is a retired trail
horse. He is very calm and gentle.
He has great ground manners and
really just need
s a home where he
can be a good pasture mate.
Adopting a Horse from a third party individual
There are many horses out there that need a home.  Unfortunately, it is impossible for us to take them all
in.  In an effort to help facilitate placement of other horses, we have provided the following
list of other
horses that are available.
I have 2 horses that need a retirement home. The dark is a register quarter horse mare that we call Velvet. She is 22 and very gentle.
She has had a leg injury for the past year and has finally healed.   The last time we had her under saddle she didn’t ride very well.  She
just didn’t listen.  She didn’t buck or kick, just had her mind made up on what she wanted to do so she will need some work under
saddle.  She has great ground manners.  You can catch her anytime and do whatever you want to her.  The only thing she has a
problem with is loading.  She is a big mare, probably close to 16h.

The other is a retired thoroughbred gelding, Tazz, that used to be a pony horse. Tazz is approx 20 and just a big sweetheart. We have
ridden him before and he does great on trails and loves them.  He goes through water and doesn’t spook at anything.  We have not
messed with him in the past 6 months so he may need a tune-up.  He rides great, neck reins and stops on a dime.  The only bad habit
he has is girthing.  He tends to pull back if he is girthed too fast but if you take it slow he doesn’t seem to mind.

They both are free to only a good home and must go together! I will come inspect home before they are placed. Will also make
occasional visits to the home after they are placed. New home will have to sign a contract. Both are in good health and have just had
feet trimmed.

Poke
Poke’s real name is Cowboy but he had
acquired the nickname of Poke.  Poke is
a pleasure to ride and a great trail
horse
.  He carries himself very well and
isn't at all spooky.
  Like Sadie, he will
need to be monitored and may need to
be restricted from too much rich grass in
the spring and summer.
